Results

One hundred twenty (120) patients with bipolar disorder and cocaine dependence randomized to lamotrigine up to 400 mg/day or placebo control for 10 weeks. Data were available for 112 individuals. Lamotrigine was associated with a nonsignificant decrease in cocaine use in the first 2 weeks, but the effect appeared to wear off, and there was no difference at week 10. The lamotrigine also had no significant effect on symptoms or cognition.
