One-hundred and sixty patients were randomized, and 139 patients completed the trial. There was a significant improvement in YMRS scores for patients treated with allopurinol, but not for those treated with dipyridamole. Eighty four percent of patients treated with allopurinol were considered to be responders (>50% improvement in YMRS) compared to 57% of patients treated with dipyridamole and 70% of patients given placebo.
