Results
46 bipolar patients with treatment-resistant mania were randomized to a calcitonin nasal spray or a placebo saline spray. Calcitonin is a neuropeptide thought to have effects similar to lithium. On the Young Mania Rating Scale the calcitonin did not differ from the saline so the results were negative.
