The inferior parietal lobule is an area of interest for both schizophrenia and bipolar disorder, but it has not received much attention from neuropathologists. It consists of the supramarginal gyrus (BA 40) and angular gyrus (BA 39) and is connected to many areas including the prefrontal cortex, temporal cortex and thalamic pulvinar. A background paper on the IPL is available: Torrey EF, Schizophrenia and the interior parietal lobule, Schizophr Res 2007;97:215-225.
SMRI has assembled an inferior parietal collection consisting of 48 cases, 24 with schizophrenia and 24 matched controls. The two groups contain all white males and are matched for age, PMI, pH, and storage time. This information is summarized in a Demographic Details Chart.

Tissue Availability
The brains were formalin fixed and cryoprotected in 30% sucrose buffer. Serial sections are 60 um thick throughout the inferior parietal lobule. They became available in 2008.
