Results

304 subjects at ultra-high risk (UHR) for a psychotic disorder were randomized to receive 1.4 g/day omega-3 fatty acids or placebo in addition to cognitive behavioral case management for six months. The study was to determine the transition status to first episode psychosis (FEP). At 12 months, the overall transition rate was lower than expected at 10.5% (32 of 304), and no significant differences in the rate of transition to psychosis were found between the two study groups. A longer-term follow-up of this cohort is underway.
