Results

180 women between ages of 18-45 with schizophrenia or schizoaffective disorder on antipsychotic medication were randomized to receive either transdermal estradiol 200 mcg, transdermal estradiol 100mcg, or a placebo patch. Both estradiol groups showed improvement in symptoms, as measured by decreases in PANSS positive, general, and total scores compared to the placebo group. A greater effect was observed in the higher dose of estradiol.
