Results

69 patients with schizophrenia were randomized to receive transdermal estradiol or placebo. Patients receiving estrogen treatment showed significant improvements in PANSS total, PANSS positive, PANSS negative and PANSS general symptom ratings. Estrogen-treated patients also showed significant benefit on measures of short-term memory.
